The Make-A-Wish Foundation couldn’t bring Tien to Paris because of his treatment for battling lupus, so they brought Paris to him.

Part of Tien’s wish of having a “French Chef Experience” was hosted by the the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. Baking and Pastry Instructor Aaron Brown and his students spent an afternoon with Tien, showing him the finer points of baking.

It was wonderful to spend the day with Tien and capture his wish to become a French Chef.

The flash + burn technique was used at the Culinary Institute of America. Using a speed light while dragging the shutter created a nice mix in lighting. The overhead fluorescents provided the ambient lighting, and the speed light acted as a fill-light.
